The area of Krefeld, Mönchengladbach and the counties of Neuss and Viersen - an economic area of high variety in the center of the European Community situated at the lower course of the river Rhine with direct access to Düsseldorf. Moreover, the distance to the banking city Frankfurt and to the Euro-cities Brussels and Luxembourg is less than 200 km.
Three sides of the region adjoin the most important conurbations in Northrhine-Westphalia. In the north it touches the cities of the Ruhr, in the east you can find the state capital and service metropolis Düsseldorf and in the southern direction Cologne is only a few kilometers away. Only the western landscape is open and merges into the Netherlands. The transition from industrial centers at Rhine and Ruhr to the agricultural back country is typical for this economic region. In spite of the extraordinary high density of industry and population a little bit more than one half of the region which comprises 1.450 sqkm is used as farming land. So wide agricultural fields change with large industrial conglomerates, untouched green parks with attractive urban centers.
